FORWARD Grant Stewart is the pride of Dalziel Rugby Club after he was capped by Scotland at under-17 level against England.
The Strathaven Academy pupil impressed at a series of trials and was selected for the under-17s’ only international match of the season.
Unfortunately, the Scots lost 33-15 to the English at Melrose, but despite the result it’s an occasion that Stewart will always remember.
Scots head coach Peter Laverie said: “The competition for places has been intense with a national trial two weeks ago and final selection at a follow-up training camp.
“The players have responded well to the level of competition for places and it means we have a stronger squad throughout.
“The England game was the first opportunity for the majority of these players to experience international rugby and it was a huge physical challenge.”
