WISHAW Sports Centre will host this year’s Wishaw Games on Saturday and Sunday (August 11 and 12).
The event, in its 22nd year, will see hundreds of competitors from all over Scotland take to the centre’s track and pool.
It is one of the country’s premier multi-sports competitions for people with physical and learning disabilities.
And organisers are inviting all spectators to attend the free event.
It kicks off at 10am on Saturday with carpet bowls, table tennis, boccia and athletics. The official opening will be carried out by Provost Jim Robertson at 12.45pm.
The swimming gala will take place on Sunday, with a full programme of events throughout the day starting at 11am.
This year’s event is particularly special as the Games have been granted ‘London 2012 Inspired Programme’ status.
Jim Moffat, sports development officer, said: “In addition to support from North Lanarkshire Council and North Lanarkshire Leisure Ltd, we are grateful to the following local businesses and organisations for their support - Rotary International of Scotland, in particular the Motherwell and Wishaw Rotary Club; Wishaw and District Housing Association; Thomas Tunnock Ltd; Forsyth Fresh produce and clubsportnl.”
