Thorniewood United are through to the last eight of the Euroscot Engineering Central League Cup after two second half goals gave them victory over St Anthony’s at Robertson Park on Wednesday night.
After a goalless first half Thorniewood took the lead in the 56th minute when Scott Murphy unleashed a 30-yarder into the bottom corner.
The Glasgow side missed a number of chances to equalise and paid the price in the 75th minute when John Crawley found Darren O’Donnell who netted from six yards.
Although it wasn’t a particularly impressive performance the Super League First Division side will be releived to make it through against the Central League opponents.
Thorniewood return to league duty on Saturday when they play Greenock, again at Robertson Park.
Bellshill Athletic are also at home and will be hoping to end their run of eight league games without a win when they take on Maryhill at Fullarton Park.
Both games start at 2pm - full reports in next week’s Times and Speaker.
