Motherwell defender Stevie McMillan was pipped at the post in a competition at Fir Park in March 1999 to measure the SPL’s hardest shot.

His 69 mph rocket was equal fastest along with Dundee United’s Scott McCulloch, but the Tannadice man had a hardest second shot. Others taking part included Tommy Coyne (Dundee), Tosh McKinlay (Celtic) and Gary McSwegan (Hearts).

Inspector Gordon Clydesdale (left)and constable Alan Black measured speeds.
