Junior sides Bellshill Athletic and Thorniewood United head into their respective league encounters this weekend in contrasting moods.

Thorniewood travel to Greenock in desperate need of a boost as they sit rock bottom of the Super League First Division table. But Bellshill are flying high after going top of the Central League First Division as they prepare to take on closest rivals Lesmahagow at Fullarton Park.

Thorniewood have taken just two points from their eight games so far and are four points adrift at the foot of the table following Saturday’s defeat by Kilsyth. The Viewpark side face a real battle to hold on to Super League status and could do with breaking their legaue duck against a Greenock side seventh in the table.

Ironically, they could be replaced by Bellshill who boosted their promotion hopes with a win away to Benburb, their sixth victory in eight games.

That put them on top of the table, ahead of Lesmahagow and previous leaders Renfrew. Both Saturday’s games kick off at 2pm.
