Motherwell wretched start to 2015 continued at Dens Park on Saturday as they contributed to their own downfall against Dundee.

After his scintillating cameo against Aberdeen youngster Dom Thomas was given his first start, but ’Well found themselves two down before he could make an impact on proceedings.

In the third minute David Clarkson swept the ball out to the right and ALEX HARRIS cut inside and his shot deflected off Mark O’Brien on its way into the net.

Five minutes later Clarkson again turned provider as he nodded into the path of Greg Stewart. Dan Twardzik denied the first effort, but as the ball came back off the post STEWART reacted quickest to nod home.

Stewart almost grabbed his second, but was denied by a fine save as Twardzik dived to tip the ball over the bar.

’Well got back in the match after 19 minutes as Henrik Ojamaa’s lovely backheel sent Josh Law scampering to the byeline and his low cross was slid in at the near post by JOHN SUTTON.

However, Dundee regained their two goal advantage on 34 minutes as Twardzik dropped Stewart’s corner at the feet of GARY IRVINE who needed no second invitation to lash the ball into the net.

Any hopes the visitors had of rescuing something from the match looked dashed a minute before the break as Ojamaa was shown a straight red card for throwing an arm into the face of Kevin Thomson as he was being harried by the Dundee captain.

Twardzik went a little way to redeeming his earlier mistake as he denied Gary Harkins at point blank range.

On the hour mark ’Well boss Ian Baraclough gave a debut to another young midfielder as Ross MacLean replaced Thomas, while Lee Erwin was sent on to boost the attack as Lionel Ainsworth went off.

However, the traffic continued towards the away goal and ten minutes later it was 4-1 ... and what a calamity it was for the ’Well defence.

Kostadin Gadzhalov tried to nod into the path of Luka Tankulic, O’BRIEN stepped across to snuff out the danger, but then contrived to bundle the ball past Twardzik and knock it over the line with his heel.
