Motherwell captain Keith Lasley has been granted a testimonial year in recognition of his service to the club over 12 years across two spells.
He has made almost 350 appearances for the club, scoring 20 goals in the process.
Lasley first signed for the club back in March 1999 when Billy Davies plucked him from Paisley side Gleniffer Thistle, putting his days as an electrician behind him.
He became a regular in the side in 2001-02 when Motherwell were in administration under manager Terry Butcher. His consistency alerted teams down south and moved to Plymouth Argyle in 2004.
At the end of his second season he was loaned out to Blackpool before being released and returned to Fir Park under Maurice Malpas when Kilmarnock failed to make him an offer after a trial at Rugby Park.
Becoming a firm favourite with the ’Well support he is now one of the most experienced members of the squad.
’Well Society chairman Graham Barnstaple paid tribute.
He said: “Keith has been a terrific servant to the club in both his spells.
“In his initial spell he experienced some of the worst of times as the club was plunged into administration, but this helped give him his chance .
“As always his grit and determination, allied with his midfield ability, established him in the side.
“When he moved to Plymouth in 2004 no one grudged him the move as he had played a major role in the team during a difficult spell.
“When I heard he had been released and was on trial at Kilmarnock it just didn’t seem right he would join any other Scottish club, thankfully that fell through and he returned to his spiritual home and has seen some of the best of times in his second spell.
“He has been a consistent performer in a side that has qualified for the Champions League qualifier, finished runner-up in the SPL and reached a Scottish Cup final.
“He has become part of the fabric of the club and the club has also become a large part of his own life.
“His two young children attend home games on a regular basis and Keith believes they will grow up to be Motherwell supporters .
“There is no doubt Keith deserves to be honoured with a testimonial and I am sure the fans will turn out to support the events when they are announced through the early part of 2014.”
Events planned for Lasley’s testimonial include a race night in the Electric Bar on December 7, followed by a dinner, golf day, testimonial game and band night, with dates and venues to be determined.
