Jack Leitch says it was a dream come true to make his first start for Motherwell in the 4-1 win over Hearts on Saturday.
His dad Scott played for six years at Fir Park, before becoming assistant manager and is now the club’s current academy director.
Leitch said: “I was delighted with the result and pleased the manger gave me a start and I was happy with my performance.
“I was told on Friday I would starting and I had so much experience around me in the likes of Stephen McManus , James McFadden and Keith Lasley so it was helpful to have them on the park with me.
“It is a dream come true for me to play for Motherwell, I have supported them since I was a young boy and my dad is constantly encouraging and supporting me to follow my own path.
“It was hard for us the previous two games with the defeats to Dundee United and St Johnstone and we have had a lot of injuries, but generally we have brilliant since the turn of the year and it was another great performance..“
’Well face Edinburgh opposition again this Saturday as they travel to Easter Road to face Hibs, with Stuart Mccall having to decide whether to stick with Leitch or restore Stuart Carswell to the starting eleven.
Leitch said: “I’m sure Stuart will be looking to get his place back for the Hibs game, but I’ll just take it one game at a time and see what happens.”
There could soon be two Leitchs in the ’Well team with brother Robbie also on the club’s books.
Leitch said: “Robbie is doing really well in the under-17s and hopefully comes in full-time next year.”
