Firpark School are gearing up to take part in this year’s newly expanded ASN seven-a-side league.
The Motherwell school, along with Pentland and Buchanan Schools from Coatbridge, make up North Lanarkshire’s entries in the tournament, which is now in its fourth year.
Andy Smith, football development co-ordinator, said: “We have extended the number of school teams participating from five to nine by inviting in our colleagues from South Lanarkshire with all matches being played at the fantastic Ravenscraig indoor 3g pitch.
“The top two teams from Central Region go on to compete for the national trophy, along with the first placed team from South Lanarkshire, which is held at Ravenscraig in May.
“The ability of all the players is wonderful to see and the tournament continues to get stronger every year.”
Councillor Jim Logue, convener of learning and leisure services, said: “The league has been an overwhelming success, and we have recently seen four players from Firpark School get in to the Scottish FA U19 learning disability national squad.
“This is great to see and we wish them all the best of luck for the future.”
