Workers from PPDi in Bellshill followed in the footsteps of Ronaldo, Luis Figo and Andreas Pirlo recently by playing at Inter Milan’s training ground.
The squad of 16 footballers - split into two teams - travelled to Italy for the research company’s annual international tournament, the Clinical Spotlight Cup, and were the only side to defeat the host nation who went on to win the trophy.
John McDade and Paul Doherty scored in the 2-1 opening game win over Italy and subsequent wins over Serbia and Poland sent PPDi Scotland into the knock-out stages.
There they eliminated Germany 3-1, but were knocked out on penalties by finalists Bulgaria, making them the only undefeated side in the competition having drawn the match 0-0.
The Bellshill office’s second side also made the knockout stages, but were eliminated by Serbia 3-2.
The Scots were 2-0 down before Vic Singh clawed a goal back.
Serbia restored their two-goal advantage before a late rally saw Iain Oliver send a looping header in to give them hope, but it was all in vain as David McKenzie’s effort for an equaliser came back off the crossbar in the closing stages.
Italy defeated Bulgaria 1-0 in the final.
