Junior sides Bellshill Athletic and Thorniewood United are keeping their fingers crossed they won’t be left on the sidelines by the weather again this Saturday.

It was another frustrating day as waterlogged pitches forced the cancellation of Thorniewood’s Super League First Division match at Kilsyth Rangers and Bellshill’s Central Division One clash with Dunipace at Fullarton Park.

The sides have managed to play just three league games each since December 6 and Thorniewood haven’t played at all since January 24.

The Viewpark outfit remain second bottom of the table and while they have games in hand over most of the sides above they face having to cope with an ever increasing fixture backlog as they battle to beat the drop.

This Saturday - weather permitting - they face Kirkintilloch Rob Roy at Robertson Park.

The sides drew 2-2 when they met at Kirkintilloch back in September.

Meanwhile Bellshill remain top of the Central First Division standings, four points ahead of Lesmahagow who have two games in hand.

Athletic are away but still on ‘home’ ground this Saturday when they take on Vale of Clyde at Fullarton Park.

Bellshill will be out to complete the double over their ‘landlords’, having won 4-1 when the sides clashed in Bellshill’s home fixture in September.

Both Saturday’s games are due to kick-off at 2pm.
