Junior sides Thorniewood United and Bellshill Athletic return to league duty on Saturday after their cup commitments of the past two weeks.
Both sides bounced back from their West of Scotland Cup defeats the previous week to hit the goal trail in the Scottish Junior Cup last Saturday, racking up 11 goals between them.
Thorniewood are still chasing their first Super League First Division win of the season and currently sit second bottom of the table.
But they head for Shettleston on Saturday boosted by last week’s 6-1 demolition of Kirriemuir Thistle and by the fact that they have already beaten Shettleston this season, 3-2 in a Sectional League Cup match at Robertson Park in August.
Bellshill made a considerable impression on Grantown on Saturday with the atmosphere they created in what was the Highlanders’ first ever Scottish Cup game.
Delighted Athletic boss Robert Downs was delighted with the 5-2 and the support his side got, tweeting: “Just like to thank all the fans, friends and family that made the long trip to Grantown. Hope to see you all next week.”
Promotion chasing Athletic are at home to Larkhall Thistle on Saturday and are third in the Central League First Division table with five wins from their six games so far. Both Saturday’s games kick-off at 2pm.
