MOTHERWELL wrestler Fiona Fraser made her debut for Britain’s premier ladies’ promotion Pro Wrestling: Eve on Saturday, gaining valuable experience as she prepares to take on ‘the best in Europe’.
Fiona had hardly watched wrestling on TV, but after catching an episode decided she wanted to start training and joined SWA Source 18 months ago.
She said: “I wasn’t someone who grew up watching as a kid, indeed I did no sport before, but now I’m loving it and although training with mostly guys I had no problems and treated with nothing but respect.”
At the Wrestlefever in Suffolk, Fiona lost to the more experienced Erin Angel on a card which featured former TNA Knockout champion Angelina Love as well as some of the world’s top female talent including the powerful German giant Alpha Female and Fiona’s next opponent Nikki Storm.
Fiona said: “I didn’t win my match, but it was still a successful trip as I got to soak up so much knowledge and learned a lot from being surrounded by more experienced girls.
“I tried to talk to and get advice from everyone, even the Japanese girls who couldn’t really speak English. The atmosphere was great so I’d love to return in the near future.”
The event gave Fiona a chance to scout Nikki before they meet at SWA’s Battlezone 2012 in St Bride’s Hall, Motherwell, on Friday, November 23, at 6.30pm.
Fiona said: “I consider Nikki to be the best in Europe, she is an amazing wrestler, but hopefully I can spring a surprise.”
Another home town favourite will be in action as John ‘The Bomb’ Graham and Nathan Black defend the SWA tag team titles against Britain’s Most Wanted.
The card also includes British legend Johnny Kidd as well as the 30-Man Battlezone Rumble.
Tickets costing £10 adult, £8 child/concession and £30 for a family of four ticket are available from G Force Games in Muir Street, visiting Scottish Wrestling or on the door.
The Times & Speaker has two family tickets to give away.
