End of Colville double dream

MOTHERWELL amateur side Colville Park AFC’s dreams of a cup double bit the dust on Monday night when they were beaten on penalties in the final of the West of Scotland Cup at New Douglas Park, Hamilton.

The match against Dumbarton Academy FP was a hard fought affair with the rain soaked pitch providing testing conditions for both sides.

The first half was evenly-contested, and although Scottish Cup finalists Colville Park had the better of play and chances in the second half, and extra time, the Dumbarton ‘keeper brought off several fine saves to keep the scoresheet blank.

That took the final into a penalty shoot-out decider and the Dumbarton ‘keeper again proved the hero, saving one of Colville’s penalties as his side triumphed 4-2 on spot kicks to lift the trophy.
