A BELLSHILL footballer has entered a nationwide competition to win a professional football contract south of the border.

Former Hamilton Accies and Alloa Athletic midfielder Declan McAvoy (20) hopes Samsung’s Win A Pro Contract talent hunt will get get his career back on track at either Swindon Town or Leyton Orient of League One.

McAvoy said: “I graduated from the Hamilton youth academy and featured in a few reserve games. The club were impressed with me so I got called up to the first team and played in the SPL.

“I was sent out on loan to Alloa Athletic, played 14 times and helped them secure a play-off spot. Then I signed for them but struggled for first team football.

“I then moved to Malta but had a couple of bad injuries and was out of action for almost a year.

“I’ve been working for a tyre company, but this competition gives me a chance to show what I can do and get back into football.”
