Motherwell boxer Paul ‘Charlie’ King’s last fight on British soil before moving to Australia ended in disappointment.

He said: “The hunger has come back after I took a year out and in my last two fights I moved up to light-middleweight which felt much more comfortable.

“I don’t intend being in the sport for much longer, but I’m still ambitious and would like a shot at the British or Commonwealth title.”

King moved up to light-welterweight to take on Steve Williams in Liverpool but the fight was stopped in the second round.

Manager Tommy Gilmour said: “Charlie had beaten Steve in the amateurs so he was confident when he took the fight, but Steve has changed trainers and it has obviously worked for him as he looked very fluid.”
