TWO pupils from Firpark Secondary in Motherwell have become the first from their school to be selected for the Scotland ASN Football under-19 squad.

Striker Kevin McCourt and midfielder Peter Kirley (both 15) starred in the North Lanarkshire ASN tournament at Ravenscraig and the Scottish Schools championships. They also shone at two trials at Forthbank Stadium in Stirling.

Kevin said: “I was shocked but delighted to make the team and as a striker hope to score plenty of goals for Scotland.”

Peter added: “Playing for Scotland will be a dream come true.”

The boys train with North Lanarkshire’s ASN football squad under the watchful eye of former professional Andy Smith.

They attend Scotland get togethers on a regular basis ahead of next year’s Home Nations Championships in Wales.
