THE Times & Speaker has thrown its weight behind the Lanarkshire 2011 International Children's Games - by becoming its media partner.

The International Olympic Committee recognised event will attract around 2,000 young athletes, coaches and officials from 50 countries in what will be the largest international event ever held in the county.

Colin Hume, group editor of Johnston (Falkirk) Ltd - our parent company - gave the Games his backing at Fir Park stadium, one of the official venues.

He said: "We're keen to support anything that promotes the profile of the area and the International Children's Games does just that."

Organising committee co-chairman Councillor Jim Smith said: "Having Johnston Newspapers supporting Lanarkshire 2011 as a media partner is a huge boost to all involved with the Games."
