A youth has been accused of encouraging his dog to bite a police officer trying to arrest him.

Scott Strachan (18), of Woodside Tower, Motherwell, appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court this week.

He was charged with threatening an officer with his dog and trying to headbutt him in a park in McCracken Drive, Viewpark, on July 14.

It’s further alleged Strachan smashed windows at a house in Ross Drive, Viewpark, and tried to pervert the course of justice by phoning the police to say the damage had been done by others.

He is also accused of assaulting two other police officers and resisting arrest.

Strachan, represented by solicitor Mark Lunny, denied all the charges and was allowed bail ahead of his trial in January.
