Work has started on the new £250,000 outdoor sports facilities at Bellshill Academy, including three separate multi-sport courts to offer handball, basketball, hockey, tennis and football.

A warm up/cool down area and outdoor gym equipment are also being installed and a four-lane running track including a sprint section will be marked out on site.

The entire development will have a polymeric rubber surface installed to allow for year-round use.

Head teacher Anne Munro said: “This is great news for the school and everyone is delighted that work has started, it will provide us with fantastic new outdoor sports facilities and have a massive impact on our pupils.”

Access to the site and each individual court will be made wheelchair friendly.
