AN area of New Stevenston was cordoned off after a man threatened to throw himself off a railway bridge last night (Tuesday).
Police, fire and ambulance crews rushed to the scene after reports of a suicide bid around 7pm.
Train services for nearby Holytown Station were disrupted as attempts were made to talk the man down from the pedestrian bridge in Jerviston Street.
After around two hours the man came down and was then questioned by police officers and examined by medics.
One villager who witnessed the drama said: “The emergency services were certainly out in force.
“I counted seven police vehicles in attendance plus an ambulance and a fire engine.
“It happened in the centre of the village and there were lots of people looking on, but the police cordoned off the area so they couldn’t get too close.”
