HEARTLESS thieves have ended a historic tradition - by stealing a Motherwell church’s bell.

Parishioners at St Margaret’s Parish Church in Muirhouse were shocked to discover the bell had been swiped as they gathered for a service on Sunday morning.

The bell, which had hung over the main entrance of the church since it opened almost 50 years ago, is believed to have been taken sometime last week.
