Uddingston prepares to tackle spring clean-up

THE annual spring clean organised by Uddingston Pride will take place on Saturday.

The clean-up and litter pick is the first stage of the group’s efforts to add to the village’s list of successes in the Britain In Bloom competition.

Uddingston is representing Scotland in the urban community section of the competition, for which judging will take place later in the year.

And this year Uddingston Pride is also participating in Beautiful Scotland’s efforts to prepare for a massive clean-up prior to the Commonwealth Games 2014.

Those taking part will meet at Park Church at 10am and Uddingston Pride member Alex Stephen said the group was appealing for as many volunteers as possible to go along on the day.

He said: “The primary schools are doing their bit and we hope that other organisations will help in this community effort. We have arranged to meet at a central location, Park Church hall, where duties will be allocated.

“It is a great way to meet people and get out in the fresh air for a couple of hours and give a little to the community.”

Tea and coffee will be available, in addition to soft drinks for the younger helpers, at the end of the morning and there will be 10 prizes to be won as an incentive for the children participating.
