THE newly refurbished Motherwell Concert Hall opened its doors for a special trip down memory lane recently.

Former council officer Tony McNulty (81), who was the chief security officer and senior halls attendant at the venue, was given a tour by NLC chief executive Gavin Whitefield and venue operation manager Craig Smart.

The former army regimental quartermaster was a permanent fixture at the Civic from 1969 until his retirement in 1992.

Tony was responsible for looking after the concert hall and making sure everything was shipshape for its many events over the years.

He said: “I’m grateful to the chief executive for inviting me along, I can’t wait to tell my sister in Texas about this. “It might be surprising to know that ballet was the most popular type of performance when I was here. I also loved the pantos and knew the lines backwards to them!”
