A 10-month road closure in Bellshill is set to end tomorrow night (Wednesday).
North Road will re-open to traffic, allowing a direct connection to the A725 and Shawhead junction of the A8.
Since January drivers leaving Bellshill for Shawhead and Coatbridge have been diverted via Bellziehill roundabout.
In September North Road was also closed to Bellshill-bound traffic for major work which is part of the M8 improvement scheme.
The diversions have added to peak time delays in the Bellshill area.
Confirming the re-opening, a Transport Scotland spokesman said there will be a temporary roundabout in place before traffic lights are installed.
Meanwhile, the Health and Safety Executive is investigating a crash near the motorway roadworks in Bellshill last week which left a teenage construction worker critically injured.
The 18-year-old man, who was not named, is believed to have been struck by a vehicle near Carnbroe Road.
He was treated for serious injuries in the intensive care unit at Glasgow Royal Infirmary.
Neither the police nor the HSE could give an updated condition for him this week.
