TWO talented Uddingston schoolgirls picked up top marks after their colourful designs were selected as the winning entries to showcase their joint school fete.
Christina Clark (10) from St John the Baptist Primary, and Jade Mathieson (11) from Muiredge Primary, beat off competition from over 400 pupils to land top prize in the art competition.
The challenge was set for pupils from both schools and nursery to design posters which could be used to publicise the fete that is being held at Muiredge Primary on Saturday, June 16, from noon-3pm.
Entries were put on a shortlist by the fete committee before the winning drawings were chosen.
The girls were both presented with a goody bag and a £25 Amazon voucher by sponsor and judge Angela Wright of the Uddingston Veterinary Centre.
Attractions at the fete will include a coffee shop, burger bar, bouncy castle, face painting as well as lots more fun activities and traditional fayre stalls.
The joint St John’s and Muiredge infant choir will also be performing.
Muiredge headteacher Mag Stewart said: “It’s good for the schools and the community to have joint ventures such as this.
“Well done to both girls. All the children enjoyed taking part in the competition and the standard was very high”
Marie Beacom, headteacher of St John the Baptist, added: “We are very proud of Christina and look forward to seeing her poster advertised around the village.
“We are also delighted to be working in partnership with Muiredge Primary as part of the local Uddingston community in a joint initiative and look forward to seeing everyone at the summer fete which we hope will be a very successful day.”
