A BELLSHILL student has received an award for producing a report on the town centre and how more people can be encouraged to shop there.

Jennifer Brown (19) received the award from Town Centre Activities Ltd, which is the section of North Lanarkshire Council tasked with developing the area’s local town centres.

Jennifer became involved in the project after first year Event Management and Business Studies students at the University of the West of Scotland in Hamilton were asked to produce reports on Bellshill town centre, making recommendations on ways to encourage shoppers into the area as part of their degree studies.

And local girl Jennifer was selected by Town Centre Activities for producing the best student report and received prize money of £100. Jennifer’s main recommendation was the introduction of a large park and ride zone near Bellshill to alleviate the problem of limited parking spaces for shoppers in the town.
