School is out for Uddingston pupils

Staff and pupils at Muiredge Primary in Uddingston are on the move while refurbishment of the school building takes place.

They lined up for our photographer Alan Watson before decanting to St Joseph’s Primary in Blantyre where they are expected to remain until the summer of next year.

The staff and pupils, pictured with headteacher Mag Stewart (right), are due to move out next month as the old school building closes its doors for the last time after 116 years.

It is expected that the decant to St Joseph’s will last for around 16 months, at the end of which pupils will then move back to a new-look Muiredge building which will house much-needed improved facilities.

Pupils have been co-ordinating plans to say goodbye to their old school building in style and held a special drop-in open evening last week featuring old photographs and other memorabilia.
