FORMER Provost of North Lanarkshire Pat Connelly has died.

Pat sadly passed away at his Motherwell home on Wednesday at the age of 84.

Representing the ward of Forgewood, he served as Provost between 2003 and 2007.

Pat had a long and varied career in local government, and was a popular figure with his colleagues and the communities he served.

Provost of North Lanarkshire Jim Robertson, said: “Pat was a real character, a great man with a tremendous sense of humour and a brilliant story teller.

“I have so many fond memories of Pat. He was a great ambassador for North Lanarkshire who was committed to helping improve the lives of others.”

Councillor Jim McCabe, leader of North Lanarkshire Council, added: “Pat’s manner and the way in which he could handle difficult situations as Provost was second to none and he is a huge loss to the community.

“Anyone who knew Pat would immediately say that his sense of humour made him a joy to be with and it was a privilege for me to be in his company on many occasions where that sense of humour was so apparent.”
