Residents evacuated as fire rips through factory

RESIDENTS were evacuated from their homes in Cleland after a fire broke out in a nearby industrial estate last week.

The blaze started in a large unit in the Biggar Road Industrial Estate, and firefighters attended around 1.38pm last Wednesday.

Gary Wallace, incident commander with Strathclyde Fire and Rescue, explained that at the height of the fire, seven appliances were at the scene as well as the state of the art Forward Control Unit and Environmental Protection Unit.
