Plans are gathering speed for this year’s Viewpark Gala Day, and organisers are working tirelessly with the aim of making this the best one yet.
The big event gets under way on Saturday, June 14, and the organising committee has called on local residents to help them make this year’s gala one to remember.
They are urging members of the public to get involved by deocrating their homes, rallying up support in their workplace, school or community group, or just by coming along on the day and joining the fun.
Gala committee secretary Sharon Swan said: “We hope to make our parade longer and louder than previous years.
“We will be starting at Smurfit in Birkenshaw this year and walking to Burnhead community centre.
“We’re looking to have floats in the parade this year and are asking anyone interested to get in touch. You could even decorate your own car and join in.
“We are hoping that local children and adults will also join in the fun either as part of their school, group or just on their own.
“If you feel like dressing up it would add to atmosphere of the day.
“The queen and her entourage usually have their houses decorated but it’s great to see other houses done up, even a little flag, it all adds to the atmosphere.
“Come on let’s make this year the best so far. Let’s build on our already great community sprit Join in and make 2014 gala the biggest yet.”
She added: “Tomorrow (Thursday) the local pigeon club are holding a sale for us towards our funds, and on Saturday, May 3, we will be bag packing in Tesco, and we desperately need helpers on the day.
“Anyone looking for a stall or to help with donations please get in touch.”
