OVER 1,500 members of the local community gathered together on Saturday to join in the fun at the eighth annual Brannock Gala Day.

The event successfully brought together the villages of Carfin, New Stevenston, Newarthill and Holytown with activities for all ages and a fantastic day was had by all.

Retiring Queen Shannon Roberts handed over her crown to this years Gala Queen Katie McIntyre from Newarthill Primary in the opening ceremony pageant with her retinue made up of children from the eight local primary schools in the four villages.

The event was then officially opened by Hibernian captain and Scotland internationalist Rhonda Jones with Airdrie with Shotts MP Pamela Nash, Central Scotland list MSP and Bellshill councillor Richard Lyle and Motherwell North councillor Peter Nolan also in attendance.
