Richard Thomson, former director of housing at Motherwell District Council, has passed away at the age of 83.
Mr Thomson died earlier this month at Wishaw General Hospital following a recent illness, with his funeral taking place at Holytown Crematorium last Thursday.
Mr Thomson worked his way up the ranks and was proud to have 30 years of expereince under his belt when he became director of housing in 1983.
He held the position for 12 years before retiring in 1995 with former North Lanarkshire Council chief executive Gavin Whitefield serving as his deputy for the final six.
He said: “I first met Richard in 1989 and like everyone who worked with him I greatly valued his support and learned so much from him.
“Over those six years I cannot recollect any disagreements between us.
“I hope the pride that his wife Linda can take in all that Richard achieved in housing will be a source of some comfort at this very difficult and sad time.”
The council’s current head of housing solutions, Elaine McHugh, also worked with Mr Thomson.
She said: “Richard was someone I really looked up to. He was great at his job and encouraged the best from everyone he worked with, and he will be sadly missed.”
