SNP members in Uddingston and Bothwell constituency are thrilled at reports Nicola Sturgeon is considering a move to the area.
It’s understood the First Minister and husband Peter Murrell have been looking at property in Bothwell’s leafy Silverwells area.
The couple have been living only a few miles away near Baillieston and the First Minister also has an official residence in Edinburgh.
The Speaker was unable to get confirmation of a house purchase from either the First Minister’s office or SNP headquarters in the capital. However, MSP Richard Lyle, who snatched the Uddingston and Bellshill seat from Labour at the Scottish Parliament elections in May, said: “I would be more than happy to welcome the First Minister to an excellent area and one of the best constituencies in Scotland.”
SNP members said the prospect of Ms Sturgeon and her husband, who is the party’s chief executive, moving into the constituency has been a hot topic in recent weeks.
There would be no obligation for her to join the local branch, though a link up with Uddingston and Bothwell would be intriguing, given the infighting that has affected the branch for more than a year since Mr Lyle won the Scottish Parliament nomination.
