Police Scotland has confirmed that an enquiry has been launched following a report of an apparent ‘attempted abduction’ of a toddler in Mossend.

The Times & Speaker contacted police after seeing a post - shared hundreds of times on Facebook - claiming that ‘a man tried to abduct a little three-year-old from a garden’ in Ella Gardens.

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said: “I can confirm that officers are enquiring following a report of a man who approached a young girl on Ella Gardens around 12.30pm on Monday (October 13).

“Enquiries are at an early stage and I would like to reassure the community that officers are carrying out door-to-door enquiries and checking CCTV to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

“If anyone has information that may help enquiries, I would urge them to call Police Scotland on 101.”
