Playing the field will be child’s play in the Mossend area when a brand new sports pitch with running track and play facilities opens.

The new seven-a-side 3G pitch facility is being brought about by a task group led by Councillor Frank McNally who secured money from North Lanarkshire Council.

Councillor McNally started the group near the end of last year, involving parent council members and teachers from Holy Family Primary and Mossend Primary schools, and council officials, looking at upgrading the ash pitch and swing park.

Councillor McNally took his case to the council’s senior education officers and the council committed £250,000 to the project.

Construction on the 3G pitch and running track has begun and this will be followed by the creation of the play park in which both schools will have a say on the design.

Councillor McNally said: “I am absolutely delighted that council officials have committed to this investment which will see the ash removed and replaced with a new 3G seven-a-side pitch, a running track and a vastly improved play park. I thank those on the task group and council for the support of the project.”
