MOTHERWELL’S Mission Place sheltered housing complex hosted a special celebration this week.

For residents Joe and Emily Greenhorn reached their 70th wedding anniversary on Monday.

They were joined by North Lanarkshire Provost Tom Curley and depute Lord Lieutenant of Lanarkshire John Brown, who presented them with a card and flowers.

Joe (93) and Emily (90) were the first residents to move into Mission Place when it opened five years ago, having previously lived in West Lothian. They were married in 1941 at Fauldhouse Cooperative Hall.

Joe was a miner before joining Strathclyde Regional Council at Philip Murray Road in Bellshill as a telecommunications officer. He retired in 1983. Emily worked as a cook for many years in Edinburgh. The have a daughter, Isobel, two grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
