LANARKSHIRE churchgoers celebrated the 20th anniversary of making a pilgrimage to Lourdes recently.
Trips to the holy site began 21 years ago but St Mary’s Parish in Lanark were let down by their travel company and their first outing had to be cancelled.
The following year - 1991 - they joined with St Teresa’s Parish in Newarthill, and journeyed to the famous Marian Shrine for the first time.
This trip was made possible thanks to the organisational skills of James Langton of St Teresa’s, and it was such a successful event that it was decided to make it a bi-annual event and then an annual one.
Since the first trip, pilgrims from many other parishes in the Motherwell diocese have joined the churches in succeeding years.
