North Lanarkshire Council has named Paul Jukes as its new chief executive, replacing Gavin Whitefield who retires in October.
Mr Jukes started his local authority career with Motherwell District, joining North Lanarkshire Council with reorganisation in 1996, rising to the job of executive director of regeneration and environmental services.
He said: “Gavin Whitefield’s vision and determination to deliver high quality council services will be a hard act to follow.
“Everyone knows the challenges this council faces in the next few years and I am coming into this job with my eyes open to the challenges and, indeed, the opportunities ahead.
“However, what neither I, nor any council officer, can lose sight of is the responsibility we have to deliver services to the people and businesses of North Lanarkshire.
“I am wholly committed to the task ahead. We have in the authority a skilled workforce and committed elected members and I’ll be working closely with Gavin and the council leadership to ensure a smooth transition.”
