A JUDGING panel will meet this week to decide the name of the new Forestry Commission Scotland woodland near Bothwell and Fallside.
Invited in January to suggest a name for the new woodland that has lain vacant and derelict for many years, six local schools – Aitkenhead, Bothwell, Lawmuir, Sacred Heart, St John the Baptist and St Brides - accepted the challenge to take part.
Each school received a competition briefing pack, talk and escorted site visit from community rangers.
At the new woodland, the children planted trees, learned about the site’s industrial heritage and its new plans as a recreational space for local people.
Community engagement ranger Julie Hamilton said: “We’re excited to find out the new name and have been blown away by the interest and feedback from teachers and school children taking part in the project.”
The new name will be unveiled at an official opening event and appear on Forestry Commission Scotland signage.
