A NEWARTHILL cyclist has done ‘wheelie’ well to raise almost £3,000 for charity.

Kirsty Gardiner (24) joined former England rugby international and World Cup winner Lawrence Dallaglio and England cricketing legend Andrew ‘Freddie’ Flintoff for their Olympics-inspired Dallaglio Flintoff Cycle Slam 2012.

The Virgin Media employee was inspired to sign up after reading about the challenge on the company’s intranet.

The event, sponsored by Virgin Media, was organised in aid of the Dallaglio Foundation and the AF (Andrew Flintoff) Foundation, as well as Virgin Unite.

It kicked off in Olympia, Greece, on April 23, with participants joining Lawrence and Freddie to cycle in relay. The last group is due to finish in London on Friday.
