THE search is on for North Lanarkshire’s best young driver.

The Young Driver of the Year Award recognises the nation’s best young driver aged 17-25 inclusive, with the North Lanarkshire competition open until January 31.

Qualities being sought for the winner include bravery, dedication, generosity, skill and green values.

North Lanarkshire Council has selected a road safety message to accompany the campaign — ‘North Lanarkshire Council is proud of its young drivers. Don’t act the clown this party season - don’t drink and drive!!’

Young Drivers can enter themselves into the competition or nominated by friends or family.

The winner receives £100 in gift vouchers and goes forward to represent the North Lanarkshire region in the Scottish Young Driver of the Year Award National Final, held later in 2013.

Scottish director Grant Wilson, on the Young Driver of the Year Award, said: “Being already a trusted service provider to North Lanarkshire Council it was a pleasure to provide the prize mechanic for this wonderful new venture.

“When presented with The Young Driver of the Year Award proposal it seemed such a marvellous and worthy concept, showing young drivers in a new and positive light, that we were proud to be involved.”
