NINE people were rescued in a dramatic mission after a roller coaster broke down at M&D’s theme park at the weekend.

The Tsunami ride was brought to a halt after a chain broke, leaving a group of people - aged nine to 49 - in mid-air on Sunday afternoon.

Emergency teams were called out to the base at Strathclyde Park around 4.30pm, and following a lengthy operation, the last person was brought to safety after midnight.
