Workers at the Dawnfresh Seafoods plant in Uddingston went ‘back to school’ as part of a special learning project.
The entire 282-strong workforce at the factory in Bothwell Park Industrial Estate were provided with diversity training through an Open University ‘Managing Diversity’ course.
The course was paid for by the Bakers, Food and Allied Workers Union through the Learning Fund, supported by the European Social Fund and the Scottish Government.
To recognise the landmark learning opportunity Uddingston and Bellshill MSP Michael McMahon presented a Scottish Union Learning Workplace Learning Partnership Certificate to the firm.
The Dawnfresh workforce comprises eight different nationalities and various cultural backgrounds, who were brought together to explore the importance of implementing an effective diversity policy.
The course was provided free to Dawnfresh workers during their scheduled shifts in 18 separate sessions, with paid time off from their employer.
Mr McMahon said: “I am very supportive of partnerships between trades unions and employers and am particularly delighted that such a well known company in my area has worked closely with the BFAWU in relation to workforce learning.
“This is a beneficial programme for all concerned.”
