AN MSP has blasted the decision to shut Calder Primary School in Motherwell and move pupils to either Glencairn or Muir Street.
North Lanarkshire Council brought the axe down on the school earlier this month despite a campaign by parents against the move.
But its decision has been slammed by Clare Adamson, SNP list MSP for Central Scotland, who said the council had failed to address concerns about the closure which were raised by the Education Scotland inspectorate.
Ms Adamson said: “I am astonished that North Lanarkshire Council has taken this decision in the face of significant doubts expressed by Education Scotland as to any educational benefits arising from the proposal to close the school.
“Indeed Education Scotland, in their report, indicated that there might be real adverse effects associated with the proposal. I do not feel the council have addressed these issues properly.”
