Uddingston and Bellshill MSP Michael McMahon has welcomed the launch of a new party pressure group Labour for Scotland.
Although unable to attend its launch in Glasgow, Mr McMahon sent a message of support to the group which is said to want a more radical approach to devolution and more autonomy to develop policies tailored to Scotland.
He said: “We in the Labour Party were part of a successful campaign to keep Scotland within the UK.
“But we want to discuss how we can take the country forward and I am more than happy to endorse any discussion around the best way for the Labour us to make its contribution to improving the position of Scotland within the UK.
“I welcome moves by my colleagues to lead the discussion.
“It was an open and friendly discussion forum. There were some people there who supported independence and others who vehemently disagreed with that but we share one thing and that is for the Labour Party to be at the forefront of taking the country forward.”
