The first intake of Syrian refugees to arrive in North Lanarkshire were invited to visit Cetral Mosque Lanarkshire in Mossend on Friday.

After prayers and lunch the refugees, who have been housed in Airdrie and Coatbridge, were also able to take away bags of essentials which had been donated by the local community.

They received enough food to last a family for a week as well as the likes of toiletries, washing powder, cereal and much more.

Mosque general secretary Ghulam Siddiquie said: “We were delighted to welcome the refugees on Friday and as they continue to arrive in North Lanarkshire we will do all we can to help them and make them feel at home.”
