Ministers give Calder closure the go-ahead

Scottish Ministers have granted consent for the council to proceed with the closure of Calder Primary School and Nursery Class at the end of this session.

A plan for consultation to close the Motherwell school was approved by the council’s learning and leisure services committee in October, but called in by the Scottish Government who had concerns about the educational benefit of moving children to Muir Street or Glencairn.

However, they have now been convinced that all the necessary work to make this happen will be carried out by the start of the new school session in August.

On Monday a letter will be issued to parents advising them of the decision.
