A FORMER chaplain of Motherwell Football Club celebrated 65 years as a minister with the Church of Scotland by going back to his local parish.
Rev Dr James Martin marked the rare milestone at a special service in Motherwell South Parish Church on Sunday.
Dr Martin, known as Jim, was born in 1921 and brought up in Motherwell. He was christened at Manse Road Church, which is now Motherwell South, and even met and married his wife, Marion, there.
So it was fitting that he celebrated his big event with the congregation.
The 90-year-old’s status as Scotland’s oldest serving minister was celebrated by the congregation who presented him with a crystal decanter and a cake.
