Marie Curie nurse Mary McCann from Motherwell is set to celebrate ten years working for the charity by walking 10km around Strathclyde Park and hopes Times & Speaker readers will join her.

Mary said: “I love my job. When people are unwell they want to be home in familiar surroundings and with loved ones if possible, it is my job to provide care and support for them to allow them to be at home.

“I have helped to care for a lot of people during my ten years as a Marie Curie nurse, and I’m now going to help in a different way by taking part in Walk to Remember and fundraising.”

The walk starts at 6.30pm on Sunday, August 16, and there’s live music and a picnic to enjoy when it finishes.

Registrating early means it will cost just is £10, although you can also register on the day for £20, with children under-16 going free.

There is a minimum fundraising request of £100, which will pay for five hours of care from a Marie Curie nurse.

You can register for the Walk to Remember event on 0845 052 4184, or visit www.mariecurie.org.uk/walktoremember
